Hey Kryptt. This is The Galactus Kid from the Palladium forums (Brandon K. Aten in the real world), so I was one of the playtesters recruited by Palladium. That said, I worked closely with the ND guys and had regular correspondence with Freeman and Cadice form ND througout the months of playtesting. Other than that really general and generic information, I can't really give any details becuase of the NDA agreement all playtesters signed. However, I can assure you that the rules can a LONG way from v 1.0 to the final. As a wargamer, there are still some changes that my group recommended that I wish were incorporated into the final rules, but nothing so bad as to make me dislike the rule set as a whole. For the most part, I think that the rules turned out pretty well. I don't think the final rules are bad. It's a fun game that my son and I enjoy. Some stuff might need clearing up, but it lets you do what what's seen in the anime. Glad to see that you guys did interact. Still wish I could see what 1.0 looked like. Brandon K Aten With talk about there being another RRT book with advanced rules will it be going through playtesters as well? Most of that seems to have been created with a lot of the feedback from some of the dedicated wargaming playtesting groups. There were some modifications that were suggested that I know my group recommended that would have required some more in-depth mechanics or a deeper campaign process. So, to answer your questions, yes. It may not go through all of the playtester groups, but it will go through those that would be more likely to get the nuances of those rules or who would be the target audience for such a product.

No problem. As long as it's not stuff protected by the NDA, I'll share any and all of my experiences. I really like engaging with the community for both this game and the RPG lines that I'm involved with.

As much as I want it now, I think that they SHOULD wait until later in the year to release it commercially. Get it to the Kickstarter backers asap, then release to retail a little more slowly. They should allow more interest to be generated, so that Masters and New Generation will be required. I also dream about a Rifts offshoot.
I can Dream if I want to!

Wave 2 kind of needs to hold off a bit. The whole issue with the Kickstarter backers aside (and I do think Wave 2 should go out to them stronger before it hits the stores), we're still dealing with Wave 1. People are still trying to assemble all their models, let alone get them painted. We're still learning the rules, and Paladium is even changing a few.
So let's get everything for Wave 1 nailed down and THEN move to Wave 2. It'll be a lot smoother. From a sales point of view, I think stretching things out only helps keep the game on the front shelf longer.
On the point of sales, it continues to be my opinion that Paladium really needs to reconsider the design of the miniatures for something that is easier and faster to assemble. The current set, while very nice, and great for converters and experienced modelers, and people who were already invested in this game (which, being a new game, was no one - except long time Robotech fans), are entirely too complicated and too time consuming for the entry level gamer, especially a younger gamer who didn't have the Robotech seed planted in them back in the 80's. The way for this game to really take off and bring in a wide range of gamers to keep it alive is to make it accessible to the people who want to open the box and start playing that day. This current version does not address those people, and I think it's to the games detriment.
