I was surprised at the size of the command tokens. I thought they were much bigger as all the photos of them are very close up. Trying to find an alternative, Mike used glass beads. These are a great option and I have some around the house. I had planned to go with this option, but remembered another project where I bought and used mini plastic poker chips. I decided to go this route as there are about 12 color options and these are able to be stacked if needed. I figured these can be used for many things like command points, damage markers, activation markers, missile markers, etc. I have seen some custom tokens posted and look amazing. What other options are people going to use? Glass Beads (http://www.starfiredirect.com/fire-beads/sangria-firebeads/?gclid=CNmwsO2k-MECFa1cMgodrzAAZA) Mini Poker Chips (http://www.frpgames.com/cart.php?m=product_list&p&s&c=2113)

I know they are small, but I was going to use them anyways. A little bigger and maybe a different shade would have been nicer though.

They are nice for sure, just too small for me and too easy to get lost.

I'll be using the tokens for now. At least until I lose enough. But I like those mini poker chips(and they are cheap) so I'll get those as back ups. Plus I can get them a few colors to mix together and match my color scheme which is fun.

And of course last night I went looking for the RRT tokens and couldn't find them. Ugh! I kept them in the bag to check them out. See how fast they disappear?

I've already outgrown the number of CP tokens with UN Spacy battle group. I've turned to Litko for custom laser cut acrylic tokens for CP and missile depletion counters. I'll post pictures once they arrive.

I found someone doing custom 1" tokens on eBay, selling RDF and Zentraedi in packs of 12 for $6 each. I bought one of each set to check them out.
For the moment I still have my tiny tokens - I keep them in a ziploc baggie with the appropriate faction cards. (And the Malcontent cards are in a baggie, too.)

Been using pennies and nickels for damage and ammo markers for 8 years now. They work great on an outdoor table- the wind cant blow them away and they are really quite small. As for my CP tokens so far i just use my 90+ SW 30th anniversary coins. Yeah i have like a lot of SW. Good Hunting Everyone!

I've been toying with the idea on how to create a stencil of the RDF and Zentraedi symbol so that I can spray paint or do a quick brush swipe of paint on the chips to label them. Either way, I've got enough to start with, but the custom options are fun.

We use D6s. Just put the numbers on however many points you have. When you use a point, turn the die.

Yeah I think a die of some type is what I will end up using as well. I like the counters, and the idea of the counters, but you get so few in the box. Maybe if they start selling the separately at some point.

the one advantage of counters is it's handy for marking which models are being boosted or are going to have extra attacks, etc, but dice are more practical. I'm going to chuck a couple d20s in the box and use the tokens to mark units

One other idea - placing a counter next to units that have been activated. In a small game it's easy to keep track of your squads, but in a larger one...

I got a lot of different colors so I have options like activation, damage, squads even in addition to command points. Keep the ideas coming!

When activating a squadron, I put D6s next to any mecha that was about to do anything.
"Okay these two guys are going to boost their speed." Set a D6 beside each one until you roll it. Reduce the number on the command point D6s.
"Okay, I'm shooting 3 missiles at this guy and 3 at this guy." Put 3D6 beside each one until you resolve the fire.
It worked pretty well to keep track. And yes, after someone's turn is done, leaving a marker beside them can really help.

An update on the above token use. I've played a bit more and found some other useful tips, especially when you've got a bunch of bonuses that are applying, like crossfire or close formation.
When you declare your attacks, put a D6 beside the target mech. Use the same color dice for the same type of attacks. Set the number on the D6 to the number you need to roll to hit. I've got 3 Valkyries together and I'm shooting at 6 Battlepods total. This is going to be a lot of fire and will be hard to keep track of what I need and the results I'm going to get. So I'll use white dice for missiles, and we'll say red dice for guns. I spend 3 command points (reducing the number on my command point die by 3) so each of the Valkyries can shoot both missiles and guns. I'm shooting a total of 12 missiles and 3 guns at 6 Battlepods. So (we'll say they're spaced so that I can allocate the missiles evenly) each Battlepod gets 2 missiles, and 3 of them get a gun.
So I'm gunnery 2, and I'm getting a +1 formation bonus, shooting at guys with Def 6. I need 3s to hit. So I set 2 white dice by each Battlepod, putting the number on each die at a 3. This way I can allocate my attacks and still remember what I need to hit. We'll say Fred, the pilot of one of the Battlepods, is not that smart and somehow he ended up facing the wrong direction. I only need a 2 to hit Fred. So I put the numbers on Fred's dice at 2s. I allocate the red "gun" dice the same way. I use different color dice because the weapons do different damage, and because the possibility of anti missile, and because of future dodge target numbers.
So once I've allocated all my attacks, I can get up and use the bathroom, get a drink, watch a movie, and then come back, and I can still see what I need to hit and I don't have to do any math. So I go from pod to pod, rolling dice and getting results. Roll the dice in like sets. In other words, if one of your shooters has a different gunnery, or has an additional bonus (he happens to be in their rear arc and everyone else is in front) then do him seperately, because it's gonna matter. If I miss, I set the die aside and don't worry about it anymore. If I hit, I put the die back beside the target.
I'm shooting at a guy and the dice say I need a 3 to hit. He's Def 6, so that basically means a total of 3 is being added to my roll. I rolled a 4 and a 2 (for the missiles), and a 5 (for the gun). The 2 misses, so I set it aside. The 4 and the 5 hit, so I put them back beside the target. NOW... when I do that, it's time for some quick math. I calculate my total to-hit. I add 3 to my rolls of 4 and 5, giving me totals of 7 and 8. Now my D6s don't go all the way up to 7s and 8s. So when I set the dice back down beside the Battlepod, I calculate what the pod will need if he chooses to dodge. He's got a Piloting of 2. So that means if he chooses to dodge, he's going to need a 5 and a 6. So I set the dice back down as a 5 and a 6. That way my opponent can easily tell what he needs to roll to dodge which attacks.
This has worked very smoothly when we've used it in play. You don't have to keep a lot of different numbers in your head at once and you don't have to write anything down. You do need lots of D6s though. Just remember that the dice represent the number you need to roll, the math has already been done. It's not even that necessary to remember how you got the bonuses, because after you get done allocating attacks on 6 different Battlepods, you're gonna forget why that one attack on the second Battlepod needs a 4. You just say "I need a 4, he's got Def 6, I guess I got a total of +2 somehow".

I LIKE this. Thanks Brian.
I've cut-and-pasted this in a word document and printed it. I will keep it with my rulebook to explain and use with my opponents in future games.
Excellent.
Being a ex-WFB and 40K player, I have A LOT of different color dice so this works for me.
