I have been working on Grell this week and last. I haven't painted pewter in a very long time and I forgot how different it is to work with. Every time I primed it, I would find all sorts of irregularities that needed smoothing or sanding. Speaking of primer, my Vallejo air primer comes off frustratingly easy. It really doesn't take much to chip the paint off of these pewter figures, and that's after washing it and even abrading the surface a bit (I didn't sand super smooth). Airbrush gave me some fits on the dark green, and there were a number of other issues, but all in all, he's coming along. I still need to touch him up, do a bit more drybrushing, as well as add decals. One effect that got totally lost but I will definitely be using on future figures, is the way the light grey primer would show through under light layers of the dark green paint. If I had planned it better, I would have just let that make my highlights for me, as it was very effective while I was working on it. Unfortunately, I had already layered it on too thick in the wrong spots for that, and ended up having to highlight in the traditional way.

I really like the way he looks! His base looks really good and i really like the offset color; the brick color. I picked this model up at the gencon this year too. Do you mind sharing colors you used?

I really like the way he looks! His base looks really good and i really like the offset color; the brick color. I picked this model up at the gencon this year too. Do you mind sharing colors you used? V I don't mind at all I am using a combination of Vallejo Game Air paints and Citedel brush on paints. In this case, I used mostly the Vallejo Air. For the Green I used 72 728 Dark Green up through 72 733 Light Livery Green. The Dark Green didn't mix very well (they are new-ish bottles) and I ended up having to do some emergency thinning in the cup when several long strings of goopy green drooled into my airbrush cup. That may explain why some of it layers on so thinly that the Dark Green initially looked like their almost neon Light Livery Green. This worked out later on when I was trying to touch up the highlights. For the Brown I used Vallejo Game Air 72 742 Beastly Brown and a little bit of 72 711 Gory Red to give it a little bit warmer "brick red" color. I try to mix in drops of 10, so in this case I used 8 parts Brown and 2 parts Gory Red. I touched that up with a citedel brown layer paint to give it a little bit of a highlight, but may be doing a little more highlighting on the browns, as it's pretty monochromatic right now. I decided to do a full blown wash rather than a pin wash on this figure, and liberally applied the darker green citadel wash (much of which unfortunately was lost during a spill while I was painting). The light bluish grey bits were done with Vallejo Game Air Wolf Grey and a tiny bit of the lighter electric blue from their Model Air line. That was also about 8 parts grey to 2 parts blue. The blue got washed out when I lathered on the green wash, and in retrospect, I might have used a blue wash to better effect, and maybe even just gone with a straight Wolf Grey, letting the wash tint it.
