Some of you may have seen me post about this on Bookface, but in a few weeks I'm hosting a demo arena event at AVcon, Adelaide's Adelaide & Video Game convention, here in South Australia. I'm slowly getting together some bits and oieces, but let me present... BATTROID ATTACK II (If someone can tell me how to make that bigger feel free, it's an attachment). The PremiseBattroid Attack was the name of the game played by Max and Miriya in the SDF-1 Game Center where Miriya first caught Max' eye, and seemed a great vehicle for turning RRT into some fun, semi customisable 1v1 (or 1v1v1 or more) games in a smaller area. I'm planning on a 4x4 play space, with maybe 6 to 8 buildings, some trees, a few cars and other bits of wreckage, and may e even a smoke plume or two. Each player will select a character from Rick, Max, or Miriya to pilot a VF-1J, and with a set Leadership value of 2 (giving each 3 command points per turn) fight it out to the last man or woman standing. Progress so farI've had a basic test game versus one friend, admittedly getting the missile rules wrong and without the pilots themselves or terrain density, but wow did we have a lot of fun. I think 3 CP is a golden spot as it gives you just enough to take those two extra GU-11 shots in Battloid while still holding onto one point for a Dodge or RWI, and the 4x4 really keeps it tight so the game got very cinematic. Photos of this game were posted to Michael Arnolds Facebook group. As far as terrain goes I've grabbed a Dropzone Ruinscape set from a local stockist friend and along with a quick trip to a hardware store I'm planning on fixing streets down on four boards of 2x2ft, while the majority of the buildings are already assembled after a quick bit of gluing monday night, and again photos of all of this are on Facebook. Max's VF-1J is nearly completed paint wise, while Rick will technically be in a VF-1S as I chose the wrong head for him during assembly, but we'll stick to the same card. My wife is painting Miriya's VF-1J as a birthday present for me, but due to a slight repose I need to greenstuff a fresh keft knee on her Battloid mode, and am waiting on some Hawk Wargames "widgets" for both Miriya and Ricks Guardian & Veritech flight stands. Those that have seen my Max know he's on a quite tall (10cm) flight pole for both Guardian and Veritech, I plan on similar heights for them. Up next time, on Battroid Attack IIMore to come on proposed gameplay mods, dice, markers, play space, and maybe a soundtrack for the days gaming.

That's funny, I've just been re-watching the series and thought about this when I got to that episode. Excited to see what you come up with.

I've switched to Tapatalk so apologies if the posts style changes, or worsens. Hopefully it'll make it easier to do it on the go, I rarely use desktops. The Board(s)As mentioned I purchased some Dropzone Ruinscape and with a quick trip to Bunnings (Aus hardware store) got myself eight 2ft square MDF boards for a whopping $AU12, at 3mm thick. Using some scrapbooking glue my wife & I have left over from our wedding invites I've stuck down the streets, and had a dry fit with the buildings I want to use and some of my WIP VF-1A Brownies. I forgot to grab some washers to weigh the buildings down with, so I'm hoping to pop out again this weekend and pick some up to tape inside the bottom. I'm toying with the idea of taping some higher up so I can magnet signs/smoke plumes as well, I've made a few of those flickering tea candle/cotton smoke plumes that I'm hoping to incorporate. I'd definitely like to place some of the 1/200 cars I've got too, they add great detail, and if I had time I'd do something about street lights but it's barely over two weeks and I've still got enough to finish. One thing I'm not certain of is the table space I'll have. I may only have room for 2x4ft of play area, so if I can't fit the full 4x4ft I'm thinking I'll allow mecha to turn along the imaginary wall if otherwise forced off board by movement, ie Aircraft, boosting movement etc. Tokens & DiceA work colleage has printed me some of the UEDF tokens from a PDF I found in the RTU group, so I'm planning to glue them to whatever sized bases I have spare and take them for the command points. I've got more than enough generic dice - there'll be in upwards of 20,000 people at this show, so the less little bits & pieces I take that I care I lose, the better. Rules & PlaytestingI need to get another game or two when I can find the time, but I'm reasonably sure I have the rules well enough down (especially for only using 3 weapons). GU-11 may spend up to one CP to shoot once more in Guardian, or up to two to shoot up to twice more in Battleoid, is also Rg 24 in Battloid, Veritech can only shoot one weapon, if all 4 missiles hit you can't dodge but you may shoot them down (6+, 5+, or 4+ for normal weapon/AMS/AMS-M), and to dodge a strike you need to equal or beat the roll. The only real modifications I'm making, bar the above mentioned potential issue re moving off board, is not including stealing activations - I want to keep the roll for initiative the focal point. It's going to be a fast game, I don't want to bog it down with rolling & opposed rolling to steal activations, especially if we get 3 players. I'm planning to do a small stand with the basic rules with Roy's face on a header to have at either end of the table, and I might yet put some links on the back like the facebook groups, this forum etc. Next Time, on Battroid Attack III'm expecting my widgets to be delivered next week, but I'll admit I'm getting nervous - if they don't rock up, Miriya & Rick might end up dry fit straight on the clear rod. I need to get her knee fixed & him off his low base and onto an equal height base, so all three are roughly balanced & Miriyas' painting can start. I'm hoping to find so e good Macross related images to use as signs and otherdetails for the table, if anyone has any please feel free to share!

I had a chance to write up my stand today, that I'm going to print two of double sided and sit at either end of the table. It covers some real basics of the rules, very "demo game" stil, completely leaving out terrain types, melee attacks, and a few other things, but I think it forms a good quick playset for the basic play of BA2. I'd love it if anyone could take a quick look for any feedback docs.google.com/document/d/1__BCIBxueg1otMLVXzOEPK0BksUIH5tNuTB6A_aEi7U/edit?usp=sharingIdeally, this is what I'll call Level 1, each player starts off in their VF-1A, and fights it out. I'm thinking either a set number of rounds with no winner or by just deciding to start there, BA2 will have higher levels with other stuff like melee, maybe some pickups, alternate weaponry, and so on. Say at Level 2 you might each gain a Stun Baton & gain melee capability, at Level 3 you might reset position into an Armoured Valkyrie or something? For now though I'm going to focus on Level 1, and AVcon.

I've just finished a really big update to the document. docs.google.com/document/d/1__BCIBxueg1otMLVXzOEPK0BksUIH5tNuTB6A_aEi7U/mobilebasic?pli=1First off I dropped thestarting/basic Mecha to VF-1A's, the increased gunnery of the 1J was just getting too many hits, doubly so when using characters, whom I also dropped back and switched into a new "advanced rules" section. I've added rules for alternate Mecha, which I'll add more Veritech variants too soon, but mostly put in so I could include some Zentraedi love for now. The main part of the update that took the most though and I'm most excited about was the difficulty level. I love the idea of the game changing as you play (as it did for Max & Miriya) so I've added 10 levels to cycle through, with each "kill" resetting damage and advancing to the next level, but counting as a score. I think it's going to be fun! I've also updated the splash image. Next up on Battroid Attack II: more Mecha, more characters, and more terrain!

Since last post I've updated with rules for five characters for each side with a bunch of Mecha for each, and started on another Challenge mode themed for Southern Cross, with the intent to do a third for the New Generation, and a fourth combining elements of all three.
I'm getting really tempted to write a stand-alone system, though, and see where I can go with this. I like the idea of a Smash Bros style game where different characters/Mecha from different games could duke it out using a basic system, it's got my game dev bug running.
Meanwhile painting is almost complete, I just have some final bits & pieces to put together for this weekend.
Next up on Battroid Attack II: photos from the first thrilling engagement!

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone! essaytypwe.wordpress.comLow priced Essay. essay writing websites
