I've been working on SDF-1 and fighter units for this. I need to figure out how to make copies of the bases for the medium ships (star destroyer) and for the fighters.
Fighters I have come up with include VF-1, VFA-6 (alpha), VFB-9 (beta), and I'm gonna do some alpha-beta warmachines. Still need to figure out stats for the ships and I think some new rules need to be made to cover transformations and "mega weapons" aka the main gun of the SDF-1.
the transformation rule allows for the stats of the ship or squad to change. I think for "mega weapons," the rule should be: it can be used once per game. you activate it during the attack phase for the ship but it doesn't fire until the very end of the round, after everyone has activated all ships and squads. It would use a blast template and everything in the blast template is hit by the attack, friend or foe. If a ship is hit, all hull zones in the blast zone that are facing the attacker are hit. if they are depleted to zero hull, then hull zones behind those would also be hit (this part is questionable.) roll damage dice for each target hit.
Just need to come up with stats for the units.
Just saw they posted wave 2 for SW Armada and the Imperial-class star destroyer is a large ship. I think the SDF-1 would fit into this class vs the medium class.
The medium ship bases are essentially the same as the small ones. Just need the measurements. Though the SDF-1 will likely fall under the large category. Hard to say until the MC80 and ISD come out but my guess is actual ships lengths will divide them as follows:
0-500m = small 501-1000 = medium 1000+ = large
That makes the SDF-1 large, the ARM maybe medium but possible small, and the obertt small. It also makes all but the scout ship for the Zentraedi large with the scout being either small or medium.
To do medium and large would be to just make the base bigger with the "disc" sections remaining the same size and centred on each side.
For doing movement I would just use the actual corner of the home made base to match the front notch on the movement template using the 2nd notch against the side of the base to keep the sip properly aligned. Won't know how well this works until i get the game in my hands but I think it would work pretty well and maintain consistency for the home made stuff.
I've been trying to pin down the costs for the ship statistics but I can't find anything that works for all the ships. right now I have a formula that works for the 3 core ships but not the new wave 1 ships. and we don't have the statistics for the wave 2 ships, which we need to know how to build the large ships.
Just got my Victory-Class, Gladiator-Class, and Assault MK II. The ships are gorgeous and can't wait to field them! Disney is off to a good start with these minis and hopefully Armada will include the new trilogy's ships!!!
