Hello fellow Robotech players!
Robbotech signing on. I've recently picked up this fantastic game. I've been big fan of the original Robotech Role Playing Game and other Palladium favorites since back in the 80's. I'm so happy they made a tabletop game for this amazing universe. Being a big wargamer, I was also quite pleased to find that my brother (who hasn't really cared for tabletop war games in the last 15 or so years) immediately took to this game because it's a fast paced war game set in the Robotech universe. What's not to like?
We played our first game which consisted of me as the UEDF and my bro as the Zentradi. I haven't assembled all the models yet, so we played a game of about 60 points per side.
UEDF 1 Valkyrie Squad - 2x VF-1A's and 1x VF-1J = approximately 60 points, in my estimation
The terrain was about 12 buidings from the game Monsterpocalypse (for now).
Zentradi (Just added the points from the smaller 'add-on' unit cards for now) 1 Glaug & 6 Regults (one squad) = 55 points
Basically, after a TON of 5's and 6's rolled by my Zentradi brother, I lost all my ships in a few turns and I destroyed one battle pod. (And this was with using Control Points only being generated by the Glaug and the Faction card power(s).
Things we did wrong: -I spent a lot of time in Guardian mode with the Valkyries, I didn't realize the bonus for 'Hover'. -Thought that Ammo was the total of the amount of missles you have for the entire game (and we kind of reversed Ammo and Volley rules) -Thought you could still Dodge after successfully shooting Anti-Missles. -I personally didn't utilize the Valkeries' speed to my advantage. (Question: anybody have some good tactics for UEDF?)
Things we did right: Play the Robotech RPG Tactics game.

Welcome robbotech.
Glad to hear you and your bro picked up the game and like playing it. The more players out there, the better it is for the long term survival of this game.
If you don't mind, please add your name to the player database post so that nearby players can find you.

Thanks and good gaming!

My VF rules of thumb: - In a big scuffle, consider Guardian the default mode, and be careful of your back arc (literally, watch your 6) because of the lack of Anti-Missile from behind.
- Only go to Battloid if A) you've got good cover, or B) if you can nail down a Braced firing solution with Rear Attack, Close Formation, and/or Crossfire, or C) if you can close to hand to hand contact with something that won't mess you up (like a Spartan).
- Be super careful in fighter mode that you don't turn-and-burn yourself right into a open shot into your back arc. Measure the heck out of the table and figure out exactly where you need to be--it may be angle more than range. Unless there's some extenuating circumstance (like trying to close to a friendly destroid to help defend or making an afterburn out of range to run out the clock), I'll only be in fighter mode for the first round or two, then stay away from it. Boosting is just too unreliable to rely on if it's a game of inches.
- I'm personally a big fan of the nose lasers if you can squeeze them in, but I know there are people that don't like them (2 MD can make a big difference every now and then).
- Be OK with strategic resignations--don't blow a ton of CPs trying to save a lone 1A if you've still got lots of work to do in the round with the rest of your points. Better yet, make your opponent think that you're invested in the unit, and let them blow a bunch of attention and CPs on trying to kill it, then just let it go.
Because of the way Afterburner and Aircraft works, consider running some formation drills with just your squadron on a table, to get a feel for how maneuverable the fighter is and to get an eye for ranges and angles.

Thank you for the replies. CappenVerra, thanks for the welcoming to the forums. I will add myself to the list as I would certainly like to drum up some interest in the game for sure, especially in my area! dcbradshaw, thanks for the UEDF tips. I need to review the rules for Aircraft and Afterburner again because the way it sounds to me that you're describing it, seems like the VF's get an additional move after they shoot or something. I will check it out. Can't believe I missed that. I am also grateful that I can post here about my game/ experiences with Robotech RPGT in general, as I can not only document my mistakes in order to correct them, but gain valuable feedback. This game is great!!!
