And man while it is VERY similar to Star Wars Xwing....your force build takes a lot more thought since you have crew and such on very single ship...

My buddy and I thought about getting into Star Trek Attack Wing. However, the model are just not comparable to the X-Wing version.
I don't want to sound like a hobby snob, but the Star Trek models seem amateurish compared to the X-Wing models. The scale seems off as well.
I'm sure that the game is just as fun as X-Wing, but the visual appeal was just not there for us.

Well they just could not even try to keep the ships to proper scale as they do in X-wing. Just too wide a variety with ships ranging from 120m up to 3km in size. There is a reason they are coming out with a game called Armada for Star Wars. I have to say though that the minis for Trek actually look pretty good to me *shrugs* and are very close too if not near dead on scale to my old micromachines...can we say home made maneuver dials and cards woot woot.

The Micromachine ships work great. You just need to get them on a base, which you can buy throughWizkids, and then dials, which are tricky, but I've had luck using clicky game dials, or you could make them out of matt board.
The Stars Trek ships are the third time they used these molds, which I hope has kept costs/prices down. They're not bad, but yeah, the scale is all over. No real way around that. With soooo many ships, at soooo many sizes...

Or that, yeah.
If you really want to go crazy, track down the big light and sound Borg cube and stick that in the middle of the table.
