Hi, everybody. I'm just going to jump right in here, because I have a lot of stuff to share. Obligatory size comparison picture! Back row (left to right): plastic Battletech Warhammer! Robotech Tomahawk! Warhammer 40k Carnifex popping out of an APC (I think it's called a "Rhino", but it's been a good 8-9 years since I built this guy)! Middle row (left to right): plastic Battletech Wasp! lead (gasp, it's lead, hide the children) Battletech Marauder! Robotech Glaug! Robotech Veritech! Warhammer 40k Space Marine Dreadnaught ("Ronin Warriors" chapter)! Warmachine Coleman! Front "row": Warhammer Knight... on a horse. Here's a lefty Veritech. When I kitbash/mod, I use a combination of tools: -X-acto blades -cuticle scissors -a pin-vise (one of the best investments for any miniatures hobbyist) -just about every sharp tool contained in CVS' 5 dollar nail care package -a flyfishing stand... I don't know the technical name, but I call it "the clamps" -two gridded Warhammer movement trays (one with 1" squares and one with 1 cm squares) so that I'm always aware of what is going to be in a model's front arc -a wrench (sometimes, you gotta give your Battlepods the ol' wrench) -Games Workshop modeling putty, although not so much lately for some reason I put everything together with craft store Krazyglue and a product called "GluBoost", made by Gear Up Products, which is a Cyanoacrylate glue accelerator. Here's that same lefty in Guardian mode. The hardest part of this mod was figuring out how to make the hands look decent. I can only upload 3 pictures at a time, so... yeah.

Here's some objective Markers. I used Games Workshop "monstrous" bases for these. The left-most and right-most objectives are pretty obvious, but the middle objective is a combination of Warhammer 40k pieces I put together to make an "Invid hive", because why not? In the back are two of the weirder pieces of terrain in my collection: pre-painted Zombified Egyptian sphinxes. Sigh, the things we spend money on... When I was putting my humanoid robots together, I took a few HCM-Pro Gundam figures from my collection and posed them until they looked cool. Then, I tried to replicate the poses when I put together the Robotech stuff. It was actually a pretty interesting exercise. Above, you can see the result of trying to replicate a Gundam Seed figure I had sitting on a flight stand. Originally, I modeled this guy to look like he was running. After about a week, I decided he didn't look quite right; I recall there being something strange about his arms. Eventually, I broke him apart entirely and rebuilt him like this. More VF-1 action in the next post!

I have no idea where I got this guy's hand from, but it's been sitting in my "potentially great" bits box for a good 12 years. That's right, I sort my bits by awesome-ness. Here's the team. Is this a good time to mention that the terrain these guys are sitting on is a Zuzzy terrain mat? It's an amazingly good-looking product, but I'm pretty sure it was made in someone's garage, because it took 5 months for them to fulfill my order, and it smelled terrible for weeks. Just awful. Okay, I'll admit it: I dropped one of my Battlepods on the floor, and it shattered into pieces. Still, one man's trash is another man's flight stand. Next post should be the last of the Veritechs.

I had to edit the last post because the grey-handed Battloid showed up twice. The gun arm for this guy was surprisingly complicated. In hindsight, he probably didn't need the flight stand. I didn't glue the gun handles into the Fighter-mode Veritechs - that way, painting the undersides of the fighters will be easier. Every time I see one of them, though, I'm reminded of the hilarious scene in the original Gundam show where the White Base launches a rifle from the flight deck, and then they show a really complicated laser-guided "docking" sequence between the rifle and the Gundam's hand. That's throwing a lot of money at the "what if the Gundam runs out of ammo" problem. It's a bad day to be a Regult pilot.

Confession time: I hate how the Spartan looks. His head is so dinky, and he has big "M"s on its arms - I always think it's to remind the pilot where he keeps his missiles. Therefore, I was glad the kit came with "experimental" arms that I could chop up and reposition. The head is part of the "Destroid command piece." Everybody knows Destroids come in pairs. Sometimes they come in apples and oranges... but mostly in pairs.

The Defenders were really fun to put together. Here is my Command Warhammer. He came out looking kind of like something from "The Vision of Escaflowne." I have that show on VCD. I can watch it on the VCD adapter that I bought for my Sega Dreamcast! Weren't the 90s great? The Commander's name is James "Louisiana" Swamphawk. His squad is called the "Louisiana Swamphawks".

It's hard to tell, but both of this Tomahawk's gun arms are angled slightly to the right. This Tomahawk's arms are pulled closer to his body than normal, which gives off the impression that he is "leaner" than the other Tomahawks. Additionally, both of his legs are significantly modified. It looks like there are a lot of gaps in the legs, but there is actually a smooth, transparent layer of super-glue filling and covering the irregularities, which will make him look more normal once he is painted. I cut a lot of plastic off of this guy's right missile hatch cover, and re-posed it half-open. Here is the whole squad - I don't have a picture of the forth Tomahawk by himself, because I didn't do that much work on him other than his upper legs (I cut off the pegs on all of my Destroids' crotch-pieces and connected the legs manually - this gave me a greater deal of flexibility and made them look less stiff).

One more shot of the Tomahawks from a slightly different angle. They sure gave us a lot of Battlepods, didn't they? I have about 8 or 9 left to assemble. That's all for now. Thanks for taking a look!

Some very nice poses... so you're really not sure where the cool hand came from?

Some very nice poses... so you're really not sure where the cool hand came from? Thanks! Actually, after putting some more thought into it, I think this kit is the source of the "mystery hand" (check out the front row, middle soldier)... at the very least, this answers my long-standing "where did this pirate's head come from" question:
