Battletech
Just starting into xwing
Used to play heavy gear, mekton, Jovian chronicles, and starblazers fleet battles.
Going to start doing them all as demos locally.
However I'm not a guy who cares all that much as to using a mini or a card stock counter/standee as your mech/mecha but that's just me lol

My buddy plays flames. He likes it. He's a fan of the Russians. He plays Bolt action too. Same thing, likes playing Russians.

We have a very active gaming group. We have among us:
Napoleonics WW2 (including Bolt Action, FoW, Command Decision) American Civil War Seven Years War French and Indian War War of 1812 A Call to Arms Starfleet X-Wing Wings Of Glory/War Lord of the Rings (including various historical mods) Bataille Des Ancien Regimes (SYW Imaginations) Impetus (ancients and medieval) Warhammer 40K Cold War Micro Armor (using converted Epic Armageddon) SAGA Pig Wars Naval Thunder (russo Japanese through WW2) Napoleonic Naval (a couple different rule sets) ACW Ironclads
I may have missed a couple that we play once in a blue moon. We get to most of these a few times a year.

I started with 40k although my friend and I have kind of fallen out of it lately. I have a SM Ultramarines army. Lately it's just been X-Wing. I find I enjoy it a lot more. Part of it might be that I can actually win games in X-Wing.

X-wing is quick to learn and relatively easy to play over all. I am really liking it myself the more I play it. Especially when just doing one on one fights. Really have to try and out think your opponent.

40k (Chaos Marines or Sisters of Battle for my primary detachments) X-Wing (Galactic Empire, but only the ships with shields) Song of the Splintered Lands (20mm not-Redwall wargame) Battletech (if I could ever find someone to play with me) Wings of Glory (if I could ever find the time) and an "Old West gun fightin' cowboys" 25mm skirmish game that my friends and I invented.
I tend to stay away from historicals, preferring science fiction or fantasy stuff.
I have way too many model projects...

Max - Google Mega Mek. That should let you actually find people to play with thought it'll be a computer version of the table top game. It's free last i checked and is pretty damned close to the real thing.

Currently only 40K. I have an Imperial Fists Space Marine army and an Ork Army. I have a bunch of old 25mm British Colonials and Dervish miniatures as well as some Boers. I haven't played Sword & the Flame in years though. I used to play 15mm Napoleonic (I had a Russian army) and American Civil War (I had both sides). I used to have a bunch of ACW Ironclads in 1/600 scale. I still have a huge number of 1/2400 miniatures for WWI and some for WWII, though I haven't used them in years either. I have a lot of the old FASA Star Trek miniatures. I used to have a bunch of BattleTech minis. There have been a few other miniatures games in the past but the list above has hit the major points.

Play Battletech currently - Alpha Strike or Classic (love both).
Will play CAV:SO once I get the minis.
Have played a slew of RPGs in the past (can't do a weekly game anymore), Starfleet Battles, Full Thrust, etc.

Still a big Battletech guy. I'm sort of making my way out of Wallethammer - I actually have a bunch of Nids and Dark Angels stuff I'm trying to trade or sell if that sounds fun to you. I kickstarted CAV and I'm a backer for the new Heavy Gear box - worst case if those don't grab me I'll probably keep them around since they'll be relatively small boxes.

You should check out the free game of Megamek. Closest thing you can find for free that is the same as the tabletop battletech. And you can usually play people over the net.

I have it, and use it sometimes, but painting stuff up and BSing with my friends while we play is half the fun for me.

Started with Battletech and dabbled in the warhammers back in the eighties while a kid but stopped once I discovered girls. Had a nasty car accident around 22 and while recovering started painting Wood Elves. Then did the whole warhammer tournament thing for about six year, started burning out badly and threw in warhammer. Was about to walk from the entire hobby when a good friend told me about a small Kiwi game he was playtesting and helping write called Flames of War. Was heavily involved in Flames and historicals for the past fourteen years, but again have burnt out. I mostly do 15mm sci fi gaming now, with some DBA thrown in. Actually most of the hobby for me these days is having grand delusions and a way too large pile of lead, resin and plastic. I do manage to get a fair bit of modelling and painting done, but little gaming.
Loved the idea of Robotech as a kid, but because it was scheduled irregularly in Australia saw all of maybe four episodes before finding Macross while at Uni. Had some of the old matchbox destroids and female power armour, so the Robotech of my imagination growing up was pretty awesome - but watching the show now I do cringe. Bought the RPG when it was first released but purely for the fluff as I've never been a big roleplayer. Never really dug Southern Cross or the other shows, just a good old Macross material man.

Yeah the old edition of the RPG came up with some really neat new mecha. Too bad they will never see the light of day again except in house games....

I used to play Battletech all the time and I was HUGE into CAV when it came out, still have a ton of stuff for both of these.

Warhammer: Lizardmen Heroscape: Just whatever my brother-in-law hated most at any given moment Pirates: Colonies mostly
I considered Flames of War since it is hugely popular at my local gaming store, but always managed to just avoid buying it. I am pretty much done with Warhammer. I just grew tired of games that took whole evenings to play. I am hoping RRT fulfills my need for a skirmish game that can escalate well for the times I do wish to waste four to five hours!

It should. You can play any pint size really. I have enough built to do something very quick (6 Regults and 2 Spartans) which are essentially 30-35 point "armies"
If at some point you want something else, X-Wing is very much skirmish and again you can play any size you want and play a 20 minute game or a two hour game. It is a bit costly to build up the collection but the minis all look REALLY good in my opinion and they are playable out of the box. No painting unless you want to customize them somehow.

Yeah X-Wing is an awesome way to kill a few hours. The normal 100 point Dogfights usually last around an hour or so.

"Flames of War": I have bought quite a few German units, but then moved away from my friends who played regularly. So, that has stopped. "Imperial Assault": Am currently getting my hiney spanked as the Imperials "Dungeons & Dragons": Currently 5th edition, but I'll play any edition 3.5 and up, including Pathfinder As evidenced by being on this board, I am in love with BFRs (big fricking robots; battle frame robots). So, I am considering building a WalletHammer 40K army of Tau, if only to look at after they are assembled & painted. Really, really wished I had gotten into Battletech, back in the day.
