So, just curious. How many plan to paint up some of the Veritechs with the standard generic paint scheme?

I do.
I plan to paint vermillion.
Then maybe one other and the rest as generic.

I was thinking about a flight myself. Then maybe two more and 1s. But I was thinking about giving them specific squadron markings. Since I'm in for a Showdown, I will probably paint up one Skull One but I doubt that I will paint any of Vermillion.

I'm thinking of making each squadron based on a different colour, just to keep things simple. I never really liked the tan and white generic scheme, and doing the custom designs I initially wanted to do would be a nightmare matching each one across three models for the configurations. Maybe do a fancy tail design for the squadron leader, but not much else.

Well, I was joking with the kids about painting two up as Wonderbolts and two as Shadowbolts from My Little Pony and now that is all they want to see. My own fault, I guess.

In all reality, I was thinking of painting some as regulars with the 1s as a CAG bird and make the 1j the squadron second. But I'm also torn with the idea of grey fighters. Something more utilitarian than the cartoonish white and tan.

I have a Reckless pledge coming in so there should be enough for three squadrons.
Black aces are a light blue\grey and white with black tailfins. Since they are my favorite, they will be getting the fast pack upgrades in a dark grey. This is also the only one that I absolutely have to paint. Swordsmen are a potential for the second squadron. They are a dark blue\grey and black with royal blue tailfins. If they don’t make the cut, the White\light grey with Green trim from the Fist of the Fleet is pretty high on my list. The last squadron is completely up in the air, but I am thinking about an orange\red and black scheme I saw on Macross World and using the TomCatter’s tail art and numbers (Felix the cat on a veritech, it NEEDS to be done lol).
Of course all three will need custom decals, but I will cross that line when I get to it.

I primed mine the other day. This will be my color scheme: I am even thinking about the canopy gold, and will *try* to match up the color schemes between modes. However, I haven't painted crap in 20+ years, so it'll probably suck I'll post pics soon. My destroids are black, and will be painted with red highlights (think Wolf's Dragoons Black Widow Company from Battletech) and my Zentraedi will be OD green (also primed) with highlights like purple/white/light blue/yellow and black weapons.

I have been looking at the 1/250 clear plastic canopies and comparing them to the RTT veritechs we have coming. It might be possible to make a mold of the fuselage and pour a tinted clear resin canopy to match the gold one you are using as reference. If nothing else it should be a nice little detail to a nicely painted valk.

I know that there are some Tamiya products that can be used to tint clear plastic canopies, but no to sure about what to use for molded ones.

To replicate the gold canopy I would try a metallic gold base, gloss, then a wash with a transparent smoke, leaving the end result glossy. It would need some experimentation, but it might work.

Each named Veritech pilot character will be getting their codex paint scheme. As for the grunts, I might go codex, or come up with a custom color scheme. I'll have to wait for Wave 2 before getting the character specific Rick and Roy Veritechs though...

On a side note I will not be painting any more brown VF-1a sets. 2 reasons I have yet to see a brown fighter in the tv series ( I think it's a DYRL thing) The brown white paint job was a PITA.
All brownies here forward will be tan with their officers being something else...

I tried out a test figure with camouflage. I'm not super happy, but at least it's a start. It's mostly a sky-earth pattern. So it's white/skyblue on the bottem, and grey on the top. I also figured it'll give it more contrast in battloid mode as well.

Too many models, not enough time.

I intend to do most of mine in the standard scheme. I'll try to replicate the original TV series as closely as possible.

I think I am going to do most of my stuff in a custom scheme. I figure enough people will be doing the stuff from the shows. Once I get some more Veritechs I will probably do miis for the special characters, but thats not high on my list really.

Having just failed my willpower save vs. CSI's sale, I will now have a total of 14 Valks. The plan is:
4 as tan-and-whites, with yellow/red/blue/green striping to tell them apart; (J + 3As) 4 in a black-and-grey scheme based on the Yamato 1/48 Stealth - this is from a role-playing group; (J +3As) 1 as Jetfire (my VF-1S) 3 in a woodland camou as UN Marines fighters - this won't make a legal squadron but I'm mostly planning to use these for role-playing anyway, and they could form the "two extra" support (J + 2As) and the last two as Max and Mirya.
The spare battroids I'll do as 1Rs matching the two Marines 1As so I can swap them out as I please.
That's the plan, anyway; we'll see what happens when I actually sit down to do the work.

Yes those Valks are a ton of work. Sounds like a nice paint plan! Yeah i like the Vermillion, did my 1st 1A core squad basic white & tan. My IJ's are white and dark grey (very sweet). Built a nice blue Max for the 1S. I'll only be building a few more VFE seekers and Jotuns (ORGUSSSS!!) from wave two. Good Hunting Everyone!

I'm doing a squadron of brownies and maybe another squadron in a similarly subdued color scheme. That way, my characters will stand out more on the table.

Beautiful work, leon! The different color feet for the leader is terrific. Was that from the book? Also, are you using brass rods to mount?

Thanks. I think the different color feet thing is from the book. Not 100% sure.
I am using brass rods. I got a pack a long time ago from Gale Force 9, which I think got bought by Privateer? I need to find a new source though. I only have a couple 4" rods left.
