So, I really like Spartans. I just wish there were a 2-spartan add-on card...ah well. Anyway, I figured it;d be a fun to see how many you could cram into one list while still being effective. Eventually I settled on 10, and some fire support.
The list has 2 forms, 300pt and 350 because I like 350 but 300 is considered the standard.
300 pts, 3 Squads, 14 mecha, 20 Command Points
Brawler Squad 115pts
- 2x Spartans
-- Gunpods
-- Command Upgrade
- 2x Tomahwks
Defender Support
- 2x Defenders
-- Airburst Munitions
Close Combat Squad 95pts
- 4x Spartans
-- Gunpods
-- Command Upgrade
-- Kain Weller in Command mecha
Close Combat Squad 90pts
- 4x Spartans
-- Gunpods
-- Command Upgrade
350 pts, 4 Squads, 16 Mecha, 24 Command Points
Brawler Squad 90pts
- 2x Spartans
-- Gunpods
-- Command Upgrade
- 2x Tomahwks
Fire Support Squad 75pts
- 2x Phalanx
- 2x Defenders
-- Airburst Munitions
Close Combat Squad 95pts
- 4x Spartans
-- Gunpods
-- Command Upgrade
-- Kain Weller in Command mecha
Close Combat Squad 90pts
- 4x Spartans
-- Gunpods
-- Command Upgrade
As you can see, they're about the same except that the larger list splits the Defenders off into a Fire Support Squad and adds a pair of Phalanxes. Both lists work in about the same way. The Spartans rush forward, laying down fire with gunpods and missiles until they can close in. just with their basic 2 attacks (they get a bonus) they can demolish two Regults each if they don't roll with it. One with a 6-point club attack and one with a 5 point kick (+2 damage, both attacks are usable only once per turn). Kain can do for a third with a stomp since he gets another bonus attack.
Meanwhile the Tommies and the Defenders hold back and provide fire support. In the bigger list the Tommies will lumber in behind the Spartans to cover their advance, or else split up to cover the Fire Support.
There's not a ton of combined arms but honestly the Spartan is pretty capable of supporting itself between the missiles and the gunpod at medium range, and their own speed to close the distance, but the airbursting defenders (and later the spartans) lay down pieplates for thinning the hordes and the Tommies provide an arsenal of long and mid-range punch for sniping important models like Glaugs
Thoughts?
