Good work, Jay. Where are you picking up the brass rod? I've seen it used by several here and I really like the look of it.

Most modelling supply stores(read; trains primarily) should carry it. I pick mine up from the local Ace hardware in 1m lengths.

How bendy is that brass? I've had good luck with regular soft steel florist wire.
Also, the paint and lightin conspire to make that look incredibly cartoony, which is, IMO perfect. I thought I was looking at a still from the anime for a sec LOL, love it

I think the "glow" around the model adds to the cartooniness :-)

yeah, the glow and the heavy black lining, really popped. Bendy is good when it comes to wires for models. I might have to look into it. My florist wire is pretty thick, I might want something slimmer

Looks great! Have you consider painting the rod black? Probably be less 'intrusive'.

What technique are you using for the panel lines? They are very clean.

What technique are you using for the panel lines? They are very clean. I do what I call painting short. I prime the model black then essentially "paint by numbers" while leaving the black line in between the details ... It takes a steady hand but comes out really clean.

Rick looks great!
I will sometimes do something similar when painting lighter colors like white or light browns where I prime white or grey, then wash with black or dark brown to get all the recesses dark and then paint the individual panels or "paint short" as you say.
