As a huge vintage kit builder, i intend to eventually use capitol ships in space battles. I have a nice fleet of the Arri Zentraedi ships that need to get shredded by the big 14" Matchbox SDF-1. The big girl would of course be vastly outnumbered by enemy ships, and would need rediculous antimissile abilities as well as the Point Defense Barrier system to make it very hard to damage. I was thinking that Capitols could exchange long range attacks only against each other. Enemy Mecha would be 'too small' to see and target, until they get into an adjacent position to a Capitol, much like in SW Starship Battles. Once adjacent, Mecha and Capitols could exchange fire at close range. Any thoughts? Good Hunting!

That's a great idea. It seems to me it was that way in the show as well, until individual fighters drew too close to enemy capital ships. It was then that missile and laser batteries appeared to begin shooting them down.
In regards to the pinpoint barrier system, I would personally rather see it played out as a save of some sort. Perhaps roll 2D6 and snake eyes means the shot made it through? If that proves too generous, maybe it could fail on all doubles? This would represent those times when the operators just weren't fast enough on those trackballs to block the shot.
Those are my thoughts and I hope they at least give you something upon which to ruminate.

Well a natural roll of 1 is an automatic failed strike, so yes i like the idea that a strike against the Barrier System would need to be a natural 6. The SDF would then roll a save against the strike with piloting 3. Was gonna additionally give it a 'Reduction' Ability which then halves the delivered damage. Again i would be firing heavy Particles and Missiles from about 8 enemy ships, including a sweet 16" Supercarrier kit from Australia. SDF needs to be able to shrug off tons of damage, and i just can't see a fortress that size being able to 'Roll with Impact'. For that matter, i don't think units as big as the MAC-II could be agile enough to RWI. The published stats give it Cumbersome, limiting it's movement, but apparently it can Dodge and RWI. But we'll see what the 2015 Monster card finally delivers. Thanks for the feedback!
