So has anyone given thought to integrating Robotech and Macross?
I've been thinking about both the Robotech/Macross universe and the Space Battleship Yamato/Starblazers universe as gaming settings. I'll leave out the Yamato stuff here, but with regard to the Robotech timeline, I'd like to eventually integrate the timelines into some kind of functional whole.
How?
Treat the TV show as an in universe drama. Anyone who knows history, then watches a "historical" movie knows that Hollywood creatively edits all the time. They've gotten better recently, but they are still in the business of selling stories.
In the Robotech universe we have a few things going on.
1.) Macross saga. This is the point of common origin. Nothing really needs to change here. All we need to do is assume the life expectancy of a "brownie" is a little longer than in the show. 
2.) Masters Saga. Here's where we diverge from Macross.
3.) New Generation. Further divergence.
4.) Sentinels
5.) Shadow Chronicles.
Now we add in the Macross stuff.
1.) Macross Zero. Tells the development story of the Veritech (sort of) and hints at things to come in Frontier later.
2.) Macross Saga.
3.) Macross Plus Development of advanced valks.
4.) Macross II
5.) Macross Seven.
6.) Macross Frontier
Here's how I see them fitting together.
Macross zero takes place sometime after SDF-1 hits earth. The creature that we see at the end is related somehow to the Vajra.
Macross/Robotech I takes place as normal.
Macross plus immediately follows, and during this time frame the SDF-3 and most of our main characters depart.
Macross II gets moved up a few years, and represents a Zent fragment fleet that has come into contact with another song using race, but incorporated them rather than falling to them.
Following this last attack, humanity realizes that it is too fragile being confined to a single world. They build more colony fleets and send them out into the Galaxy. The Stirlings leave on one of these colonies rather than with Rick Hunter. Dana and Maya remain behind while Mylene departs with Max and Miriya.
Masters Saga comes next as the Robotech masters, the last of the original protoculture, come to earth to reclaim the SDF-1 which is buried following the events of Macross II.
While the masters saga takes place on earth, Macross seven occurs. The protodevilin could either be a separate race, or humanoform invid. (part of me wants the protodevlin, the vajra, and the invid-- all hive societies -- to be related somehow).
The Sentinels and the New generation take place at the same time. While the expeditionary force is finding tirol, the invid launch an attack on earth, destroying the remnants of the RDF there. It is years before the fleet makes it back to help. pretty much as shown in the Robotech series.
Shadow Chronicles ties directly into the New Generation.
While the battle for Earth is being waged against the invid, the Frontier fleet encounters the vajra.
So, in this expanded universe the timeline is condensed a good bit, spanning perhaps thirty years or so instead of the 50-80 years of the Macross series. This would allow for remaining Zent splinter fleets, Haydonites, Invid, Masters, Vajra, Protodevlin, and all the makes of Valkyries, cyclones et al to exist together.
In short it would make a pretty good gaming environment. Is anyone else doing anything like this?
