Hi I have a question I am uncertain of. Cover is cover and it comes in soft and hard. The rules for when you get cover are clear. Mechs block LOS. What if an interposing mech partially blocks LOS. Does he grant his buddy cover (hard or soft)? Lots of people want to shoot the Gluag, how tight do I need to make my Battle Pod screen? How do we reslove it if they can kind of see him and still want to shoot my Gluag? Also how does split fire come in? Can they shoot at both the open and covered mech? What modifiers do they have to hit the covered mech? What if the first half of a split fire shot kills the interposing mech, are there still modifiers to kill the second mech? This is also important with volleys of missiles that are spread around. What if one of the targets is partially obscured? Thanks

I think there's a typo in the rules. Mechs do block line of sight, yes. Mechs from your own squadron will move out of your way, but mechs from other squadrons won't. Now in the rules for cover on page 17, it says that "mecha of a different squadron than the target" offer hard cover. I think it means mecha of a different squadron than the shooter.
Going with the typo assumption, then to get hard cover you need to make the Battle Pod screen tight enough that it obscures at least 25% of the Glaug. They can still shoot at him, but he'd get the +2 for hard cover, effectively making him Defense 9!
The way I read split fire, it wouldn't matter if they kill the mech in front first. It's effectively one "shot", so the Glaug still gets hard cover because that's what he had when you declared the attack. Partially obscured mechs would also get cover from missiles, I believe. Now, with a rapid fire attack, since you're spending a command point and effectively attacking with a seperate "burst" or "shot" or whatever you want to call it, I believe that you could kill the mech providing cover, and then shoot at the Glaug with no penalty with the next shot.

We have discussed this very issue at length and the only way it makes any kind of sense is if you use Brian's way. Our up coming league and tournament will use this rule.
