Ok, As many of you know I have quite a lot of miniatures. However, I'm also very military oriented, which means I want logical formations, and feel the need for things in specific group sizes. That being said, I went through and allocated my 14 boxed sets into formations. Any comments on these as far as color, organization, issues, etc?

Some notes:
- Each squadron has its own paint scheme, and own series of numbers. It should be pretty easy to say "red 5" or "white 3" while playing. I may only do 2 base colors (like white and black) for the reason listed next
- Jotun/Armored valkyries I am going to try to make work for any of the squadron paint schemes, though there may be an option in there.
- I am not 100% sure on the Lancer/Ghost squadron sizes, I haven't seen if they have options like a "core drone squadron" or anything to determine max size.
- I will probably try to magnetize the command destroids
- I'm not sure of the >1 Khyron/Miriya per formation, and will wait till I see the miniatures to see how they'll work.
They may even be useful enough on their own to no longer use them individually.
- I could change some paint schemes depending on what I see on the net
- As we haven't seen the Rick/Roy/Khyron/Miriya model sprues yet, I am not 100% sure I can use them as generic units and they may just be best for a static pose, which would screw with some numbers

- I wanted to have a *somewhat* unique paint scheme for the various heroes, that could easily be overlooked if not taken, yet easily be noticed if they were. Perhaps a different colored head, fists, or whatever to ID some of those heroes but otherwise their paint scheme will be the same as their squadron.

The squadrons seemed to be a bit inconsistent in the show at times. In the first part of the series it seemed like Vermillion was a small squad consisting of Rick, Max and Ben underneath Skull rather than a full squadron. Then later on they seemed to have gathered more people under them for a full on squadron. Course I have no idea if there is actually a difference between those two terms.

I like your breakdown though.

Thanks. I wasn't real concerned with matching the show when it came tot he vermillion thing, as 4 fighters don't make a squadron. However, you do make a good point, perhaps 4 "aces" *do* make a squadron in the RT universe.... well, Ben sucked, so I dunno. My names will probably end up changing to be something easier for me to remember, but I wanted pretty distinctive units that could *hopefully* fit within my 14 RRT boxes if I placed magnetic walls on the inside (just a thought right now).

Finding the time to get these together though, ugh...

I've tried to put mine together based on some logical consistency added to a bit of input from what we see on the screen. So, here is the premise for my Force Organization.

A Veritech squadron is 9 planes. This is based on both the number of veritechs we can put in a squadron and on the fact that in the show they operate in flights of 3. This is also based on the WW2 early war organization for the Japanese navy. They used a 3 plane formation the way the americans used a 4 plane formation. There was a flight lead and two wingmen. (note this is how Rick, Max, and Ben operate). The squadron was made up of either 3 or 4 of these flights. Since the SDF-1 was always short on pilots, and since it's convenient I'll use the three plane group.

So for my Veritech squadrons, I'll have 9 planes in three flights. I'll assume that Vermillion group was a subset of Skull for this purpose. So here's what Skull squadron would look like.

Vermillion Leader (Rick Hunter VF-1J)

Game wise that's one core Valkyrie squadron with two valk add-ons, plus a VF-1S add on, and a single VF-1R upgrade for Green leader. Alternately you could use Michael Arnold's fan made upgrade to make the 1R a 1J the way it is supposed to be.

Moving on from Skull Squadron, my other three squadrons will work on the assumption that the other military organizations still existed in some form, so I'll have one US Navy squadron in Low Vis Grey, and a USMC Squadron in green. The fourth squadron will e a "pure" UN Spacy squadron of "brownies".

The destroids organization will be strictly off of the cards. I plan to work on the assumption that as firepower increased the amount represented by a single machine went up, so each pair of destroids will represent a platoon of soldiers organizationally. Each group of eight destroids (I have 8 of each type) will be a company. That means my 32 destroids represent a battalion. Within this structure at game time, the "commander" will select mixes of platoons based on missions. Since the Destroids are never assigned in blocks smaller than 2 by the card system this should work.

I plan to keep most of the Destroids in the tan SDF-1 color scheme, even the Spartans. I'd rather have consistency than adhere to the schemes in the book.
