Well. One VH-1A fighter assembled. That's progress, right?
Overall, I'm pleased with the outcome, but man, that's a lot of parts and modeling for a 2-inch long plane.
My impressions? Not bad for the first models of a brand new game. There's a decent amount of detail and lots of panel lines, which I like to do tricks with using Pigma Micron pens. They certainly have some things to learn about hiding seam lines, but I won't complain. People seem to have forgotten what early Games Workshop plastic models looked like. I'll be going back and doing some fill and sand, but not as much as I thought I would.
I was kinda hoping to be able to magnatize the heads, but it looks like that just isn't going to be feasible without some serious engineering which, frankly, I don't have the time to put in. The battloids might be different, but it seems like cramming a new head in between the hull and the gun pod will bee too much.
Oh well. On to the next one.

Yes, old GW models were not great compared to today's, but that was decades ago. These people have access to the same technology today as GW, and should be able to produce models at a similar level of detail. On the whole, the level of detail for these models is fine - very good even. Where they dropped the ball here is in making them so complicated to assemble. Less parts and a snap together build style, even if it sacrificed some detail and pose variability (experienced modelers would still convert the heck out of them), would make the game more appealing to the "new gamer" or "new-to-Robotech gamer" who wants to be playing the day they open the box.
How long do you think it will be before you're ready to play?

Already playing. A buddy has the kickstarte with some assembled. I figure we'll add mine in as we get them up and running. We are running a demo of sets at a gaming con next month so I hope to have them all assembled and at least base coated by then.

There's a thread here showing the heads being put on pins so they could be switched out.

There's a thread here showing the heads being put on pins so they could be switched out. I heard about that. Thinking about the typical squad cards and how I'm going to paint them, I decided to do three as plain jane 1As. I got the second two assembled tonight. For the remaining two, I will probably try the pin method. They are going to have "fancier" paint jobs I think and maybe some adjusted stances.
